Why diverse headspaces?

  • Are you neurodivergent or suspect you might be?
  • Do you hide certain aspects of yourself or mask behaviours to fit in and be accepted?
  • Do you feel overwhelmed by constant thoughts and ideas, or does hyperfocus and procrastination make it difficult to start or finish projects on time?
  • Do you ever feel like you’re too much or not enough?
  • Did you have to take on an adult role in childhood, caring emotionally for a parent or caregiver at the expense of your own emotional development, growth, or safety?
  • Are you a creative person struggling to find your voice, niche, or community?

Contact Me

Whether you are neurodivergent or not, seeking a few sessions for a specific concern, or interested in longer-term support, I welcome anyone who feels therapy, counselling, or neurodiversity coaching could be helpful. I work with clients in person in Chiswick W4, online across the UK, and, in some cases, with clients across Europe.

ABOUT ME

GORDON MUNDIE

I'm Gordon (he/they), a neuroqueer (neurodivergent and queer) integrative psychotherapist, counsellor, coach, and founder of DIVERSE HEADSPACES.

My UK-based service offers neurodivergent-affirming therapy, counselling, coaching, group work, and training to anyone who, after we've met, we agree, I can help.

CONTACT ME

HOW DID I GET INTO THIS WORK?

My interest in therapy began in 1995 when I first sat with a counsellor. I was fascinated by the therapeutic process and sought to understand how these sessions could help me manage my internal conflicts and psychological struggles. While I gained insights into my patterns in relationships, I found that this awareness alone was insufficient for growth, as I often reverted to my old coping mechanisms.

In 2004, after being diagnosed with an incurable health condition, I joined a support group for others facing similar challenges. There, I encountered two compassionate therapists who utilised coaching techniques, which inspired me to learn to facilitate similar transformative experiences for others. This led me to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Coaching, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Neurodiversity Coaching.

Reflecting on my journey, I frequently consider how beneficial it would be if practitioners could combine counselling and coaching, particularly for neurodivergent individuals or those with chronic health conditions. With over 50 years of living with ADHD and ASD, I am committed to providing inclusive support that acknowledges gender, sexuality, and relationship diversity, while ensuring neuro-affirming care for all my clients.

WHO DO I WORK WITH?

I provide one-on-one therapy for adults of all ages, offering sessions both in-person at the The Greenhouse Therapy Rooms in Chiswick, W4, and online for clients across the UK and Europe. My experience includes working with clients at the Terrence Higgins Trust, and I am currently a Therapist with Mind in the City, Hackney, and Waltham Forest. This background has equipped me to counsel individuals from diverse demographics and backgrounds. I am committed to inclusivity and remain sensitive to the differences that may influence our therapeutic relationship and our work together.

THE PROFESSIONAL STUFF

I began my professional journey in the field of counselling and coaching after receiving training at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE) in London, followed by further studies at the University of East London and Birkbeck, University of London. My experience includes valuable work with clients at the Terrence Higgins Trust and Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest. Before transitioning into counselling and coaching, I spent over two decades in various sectors, including luxury goods, licensing, merchandising, and pharmaceuticals. I also have diverse experience in paid, volunteer, and non-executive roles within the third sector.

  • I am a member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP 404900).
  • PG Cert Neurodiversity Coaching, Birkbeck College, University of London
  • PGDip Integrative Counselling and Coaching, University of East London
  • Certificate in the Foundations of Counselling and Psychotherapy, Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE)
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Gay Men's Health Promotion, University of East London

What next?’,  which provides a supportive space for individuals newly diagnosed with ADHD, in partnership with  ADHDUK.

With a non-judgmental approach, I support you in building strategies to enhance your executive functions, helping you feel more in control. Executive functions refer to a set of cognitive processes that allow for creative problem solving, adaptability, thoughtful action, resistance to distraction, and prolonged focus. These are crucial for accomplishing tasks and draw upon skills such as memory, prioritisation, planning, and persistence.

Use this quick assessment to better understand your executive function profile.

QUICK ASSESSMENT

how I work

I am trained in Integrative Counselling and Coaching and hold a Post-Graduate Certificate in Neurodiversity Coaching. My integrative approach draws from Gestalt Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Neurodiversity Coaching. I value each person's intersectional experience and am dedicated to understanding how identities—such as race, gender, queerness, neurodivergence, and class—interact to shape unique experiences of privilege and discrimination.

Some FAQ

“How does integrative counselling and psychotherapy differ from traditional therapeutic approaches?”

Integrative counselling and psychotherapy combine elements from several therapeutic models, tailored to your specific needs. Unlike traditional approaches that focus on a single framework, integrative methods adapt to your unique circumstances, offering a more flexible and personalised experience.

“How do counselling and coaching work together to improve my relationships?”

Counselling and coaching work together to enhance your relationships by building emotional awareness and communication skills. Counselling helps you process underlying feelings, while coaching focuses on practical strategies to improve interactions and form stronger relationships.

“How can integrative counselling help me understand and embrace my dual identity as both neurodivergent and queer?”

Integrative counselling provides a holistic approach, supporting you in exploring and affirming your neurodivergent and queer identities. By recognising the intersection of these identities, counselling fosters self-understanding and helps you find harmony between them.

“What strategies can coaching provide to manage the unique challenges faced by neuroqueer individuals?”

Coaching helps identify personalised strategies for challenges such as social interaction, communication, and self-regulation. By focusing on strengths, coaching builds resilience and confidence in navigating societal norms.

“How can integrative counselling help me manage stress and anxiety in my daily life?”

Integrative counselling offers personalised strategies drawn from a variety of therapeutic methods to help you manage stress and anxiety. By examining how these emotions affect you and identifying your triggers, counselling guides you toward coping mechanisms that support a balanced and peaceful life.

“Can counselling help me with the anxiety and stress related to coming out as neurodivergent and/or queer?”

Yes, counselling provides both emotional support and practical strategies to handle the anxiety and stress that can accompany coming out. Together, we strengthen your coping mechanisms and communication skills, enabling you to feel more confident and supported.

“How can I foster relationships that respect and affirm both my neurodivergent and queer identities?”

Coaching can enhance your interpersonal skills and communication, helping you build relationships that respect and celebrate your intersecting identities. By examining your relationship patterns, we can develop strategies to attract and sustain supportive, validating connections.

“What role does self-reflection play in the journey of self-discovery for neuroqueer individuals?”

Self-reflection is essential for understanding how your neurodivergent and queer identities shape your experiences. Through guided self-exploration in counselling, you can clarify your values and desires, leading to a more authentic and fulfilling life.

Neurodivergence

Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity

Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity

Research indicates that neurodivergence is more common in the queer community than in the general population. As a neurodivergent therapist, I recognise that autism, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence can influence our lives in ways that traditional therapy might not fully address. Difficulties with social interactions, emotional regulation, and cognitive processes can affect concentration, organisation, and self-discipline. These challenges can also contribute to anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns.

While medication is a common treatment for ADHD, neuro-affirming therapy, counselling, and coaching have proven to be highly effective. My therapeutic approach is rooted in an anti-ableist perspective, embracing diverse methods of working. Whether you're seeking a few sessions to explore how your neurodivergence impacts your mental health or you're interested in long-term therapy, I invite anyone who feels that psychotherapy, counselling, or neurodiversity coaching could be beneficial to reach out.

Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity

Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity

I have a deep interest and expertise in matters relating to your gender, sexuality, and relationships. The complexities of gender, sexuality, and relationship diversity can lead to feelings of shame, internal conflicts, and dysphoria if we lack the insight and awareness to understand ourselves in our unique contexts. As a queer individual, I am familiar with the daily challenges and struggles faced by members of the LGBTQIA+ community. As a GSRD (Gender, Sex, Relationship Diversity) affirming practitioner, I provide a supportive, trauma-informed, and affirming space to explore aspects of your gender, sexuality, and relationship structure that may be causing difficulties. Whether you're seeking a few sessions or considering long-term therapy, I welcome anyone who believes psychotherapy, counselling and or coaching could be beneficial to reach out.
